[EDITOR'S NOTE: This item has not been previously republished elsewhere. It is included in this collection because of its potential to be the work of Clemens and is deserving of further research and consideration.]
One Frank Bret Harte has published a volume purporting to furnish specimens of "California poetry." But we have looked over the volume in vain to discover those well known poetical gems of "Mark Twain," "He Done His Level Best" and "My Hog Ranch." This is a clear case of the meanest literary jealousy.
